I’D LIKE TO VOLUNTEER - WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

Volunteering is a strong commitment to the department helping protect our community and its residence. Colton is looking for motivated, dedicated, and professional people to help protect our community. AS A VOLUNTEER, WHAT IS EXPECTED OUT OF ME?

Colton Volunteers are expected to respond to emergency and non-emergency alarms in the district, to demonstrate professionalism and competence as an emergency service responder. Volunteers will be held accountable to complete continuous training and participate in community events.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING A VOLUNTEER?

Volunteering is a very rewarding way to serve your community and help those in need. Our dedication is our moral commitment to each other and community. Volunteering will get you the necessary training and experience to becoming an attractive candidate in the emergency services profession. Colton Fire members in good standing can also receive reimbursements to complete Emergency Medical Technician certification; as well reimbursements in other Fire and EMS training that will benefit the department and its personnel.

HOW DOES THE OUT OF DISTRICT PROGRAM WORK?

Volunteers that live out of district sign up and man the station at the convenience of their schedule.  We have living quarters that includes a full kitchen, showers, bedrooms, Cable TV and broadband internet.  We do ask that at a minimum that out of district volunteers dedicate at least 24 hours a month. Hours do not need to be consecutive.

WHAT IS THE GENERAL TIME COMMITMENT?

The truth is it varies a lot on how much you are willing to commit.  Like most things volunteering is one of those things that the more you put in the more you get out of it. 

We hold "Drills" (Training Meetings) weekly on Thursdays at 6:30pm that typically last about two hours.  In addition we hold all sorts of optional trainings on Saturday Mornings.

When responding to a call they can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours depending on the situation. We understand that between work and family that your free time is a precious gift.
